While the idea of no property tax on homestead properties is appealing to many, there is no plan for where to make up that lack of revenue. If you can’t make up the revenue, then services must be cut. This is not a plan- just a publicity stunt.

The Florida House approved a resolution to eliminate nonschool property taxes on homestead homes starting Jan. 1, 2027, replacing a planned 10-year phaseout with an almost immediate cut. The amendment also ensures local governments maintain minimum funding for police, firefighters, and other public safety services.

Supporters say the move gives homeowners big relief, but analysts warn it could cost $13 billion a year and leave counties and cities without a clear replacement revenue source.
