If we handed you the keys in Peoria tomorrow, unpacking wouldn't be the first thing we'd do.
These eight would be:
1. Photograph every room empty - before a single box comes in. You'll want it for insurance, and for the "was that scratch already there?" conversation later.
2. Find the main water shutoff and the electrical panel. Not during the emergency. Before it.
3. Test every smoke and CO alarm, and replace the batteries the same day so they're all on the same clock.
4. Rekey the exterior doors. You have no idea how many keys are floating around out there - and neither does the seller.
5. New AC filter, then save the size in your phone. In this valley, that unit isn't decoration.
6. Confirm utilities, trash, gate or community access, and any HOA accounts are actually on and in your name.
7. File the USPS change of address - then go update the accounts that matter. Bank, insurance, employer, license.
8. Drive the routes you'll actually use. Work, groceries, urgent care, school. Learn the neighborhood before you need it.
None of it is exciting. All of it makes the first week feel handled.
Save this for your next move - Peoria or anywhere in the Valley. 📌
