Dunlap was established this day in 1871. The village was founded on 40 acres owned by Alva and Mary Dunlap. Their original homestead is now the site of Prospect United Methodist Church.

The original plat for Dunlap is in the Peoria County Clerk's Office. Note the original names for Ash, Birch, and Pine Streets.
