You obviously want to avoid this situation at all costs, so keep these tips in mind as you’re preparing to buy a home:

- Keep your credit score high by paying bills on time, paying in full, and keeping away from things that pull your credit score.

- Ensure your debt-to-income ratio remains as low as possible–preferably under 30%.

- Keep your income stable as you go through the pre-approval financing process.
