Memorial Day feels less like a celebration and more like a pause. Oh, yes, I enjoy the three day weekend, and the bbq's and the summer kick-off, don't get me wrong.
But.
A pause to remember that this country was shaped by people willing to sacrifice deeply — in ways most of us will never fully understand. Courage, service, loss, resilience, duty… those things exist beyond politics, administrations, headlines, or who happens to be in power at any given moment.
This weekend, I’m thinking about the people and families who carried those sacrifices forward long after the ceremonies ended.
And I’m reminded that loving a country doesn’t have to mean agreeing with everything it does. Sometimes it simply means continuing to hope for better from it, participate in it honestly, and recognize the weight of what others have given on its behalf.
Wishing everyone a meaningful Memorial Day. 🇺🇸
