Hunter Cited After Tracking Wounded Deer Onto Posted Property

A hunter has been cited following an incident this season involving a wounded deer that crossed onto private property.

According to wildlife officials, the situation began after the hunter shot a deer late in the afternoon and began tracking it shortly after.

Authorities say the blood trail led directly across a clearly marked property line onto land that was posted against trespassing.

The hunter reportedly continued tracking the deer onto the property without first obtaining permission from the landowner.

The deer was later recovered on that property.

Officials say the landowner discovered the situation and contacted authorities after finding the hunter on the property.

The hunter told officers he did not want to lose the deer and believed recovering it was more important in the moment.

Wildlife officers noted that while recovering wounded game is important, hunters are still required to respect property boundaries and obtain permission before entering private land.

The individual was issued a citation for trespassing while hunting.
