The second the weather starts hinting at summer, this is exactly the kind of place I want to end up.

A boat day, being outside way too long, then tacos after just feels like the formula. 🌊🌮

Finally stopped into the new Happy’s Taco Shop in Petoskey, and now I get why they built such a loyal following as a food truck.

What I liked right away is that the menu is simple in a good way. Tacos, burritos, bowls, chips and salsa. Enough options, but not so much that it feels all over the place.

I tried the crispy shrimp taco, the smoked potato taco, and the beef & cheese taco. All three were good, but the smoked potato taco was probably the biggest surprise for me.

And honestly, the thing that completely stole the show was the ribs. I came in expecting to talk about tacos and left thinking about those ribs.

Everything tasted fresh, the service was great, and Happy’s feels like it’s off to a really strong start in the new spot.

Around the Petoskey Area, these after-9 PM sunsets make the whole day feel like it opens back up again.

Bayfront Park after dinner.
One more boat ride on Little Traverse Bay.
Ice cream in town.
A sunset drive through Harbor Springs.
Watching the sky change before heading home.

This is why people put up with the long winters here.

👇🏻 If you know… you know.

✅ Keeping a sweatshirt in the car all summer.
Because it can be 78° in town and somehow hoodie weather the second you get near the water.

✅ Planning the whole day around which lake, beach, or patio you’re going to.
Not if you’re going to the water.
Which one.

✅ Driving 45 minutes for dinner, ice cream, or a sunset and calling it “not that far.”
Especially if someone says the view is worth it.

✅ Going for a “quick beach walk” and spending half of it looking down for Petoskey stones.
It starts casual.
Then suddenly everyone is searching like there’s prize money involved.

✅ Treating the first 70° weekend like the official start of civilization.
Boats are out.
Patios are full.
Everyone is wearing shorts immediately.

Summer Up North makes the long winter feel worth it.

Especially around the Petoskey Area, where lake days, small towns, patios, beaches, and those easy summer weekends are all part of the lifestyle.

The kind of Bay Harbor dinner that feels like summer Up North. 🍷🌊

Vintage Chophouse | Wine Bar is tucked inside Inn at Bay Harbor at 3600 Village Harbor Drive in Bay Harbor, right along Little Traverse Bay.

It’s one of those spots you save for a proper date night, a celebration, or when you want steak, wine, and Lake Michigan views all in one place.

My tip: make the reservation close to golden hour if you can. The view is part of the whole experience.
