I just read an interesting article about why some baby boomers are choosing to upsize—not downsize—when they retire.

Sourced from NewHomeSource and written by Maria Barr, the article challenges the traditional assumption that retirement automatically means moving into a smaller home. I liked the way it focused on lifestyle, family, flexibility, and planning for the future.

For some retirees, additional space may provide room for visiting children and grandchildren, multigenerational living, hobbies, entertaining, or future caregiving. The goal isn’t necessarily more square footage for its own sake. It’s finding a home that supports how you want to live during your next chapter.

Interesting read: Redfin estimated approx. 966,752 buyers were in the market in July versus around 1,462,921 sellers! Sellers now outnumber buyers in nearly 80% of the major markets studied.

What does that mean? Buyers may have more homes to choose from and more room to negotiate. But it doesn’t mean every home is a bargain—or that sellers can’t sell successfully.

As we head toward Q4, buyers should know where they have leverage, and sellers need to be smart about preparation, pricing and positioning.
