Dear American parents: you’ve enjoyed the largest transfer of wealth in human history in the last 25 years and your kids are struggling.
It’s harder these days and there is plenty of data to support this.
Your kids have more debt, things are more expensive and things cost more even after adjusting for inflation than when you were their age.
They’ve done what they’re supposed to. They’ve worked hard. They’ve gone to college. They’ve kept their credit in check. Gotten that job they were supposed to land. Found a spouse. Maybe even given you a grandkid or two.
This is what we’ve asked them all to do and the market right now isn’t rewarding them for it. Many of them desperately want to lay down roots & start building wealth just like you did.
The Average American income in the early 90’s was under $30k annually…
Think about that..
What can you purchase today on a $30k annual income?
They need your help to do get a house in this market. (A better market could help )
Too many parents are dismissing this cry for help & have the means to assist their kids…but won’t.
That being said, I know some of you aren’t in a position to do this but many of you are.
Many of you…probably some reading this now…
There are so many options to help your kids into homes using your wealth.
🏠 Straight up cash (Gift)
🏠 Private note where you’re the bank
🏠 Use your home’s equity
🏠 Co-buying/Co-signing
I know some of you have a principled objection but if you raised your kids right and they are otherwise responsible adults, what lesson are you trying to teach them at this point?
Toss aside the bootstraps. Put aside your ego.
Ask yourself, would your parents have helped you?
Did you sleep in their home as an adult?
Every year, a lot of younger buyers have parents who are helping and their attitude about this is simple: They can either go to the grave with my money and they get it in their 50s & 60s or watch them enjoy it now, give them a head start on their slice of the American Dream and even see their future grandkids enjoy that home too.
What a noble and modest point of view…
If you’re a Gen Z or Millennial buyer or looking to upgrade your digs, share this with your parents as a joke, half joke or dead serious plea for help…
We’re not moving forward in this unless it’s together.
Americans should be considering generational housing unless things change more quickly.
Talking with young buyers about buying duplexes; triplexes, renting out one or two units, and living in another…
These are the discussions I’m having about this market.
My point; let’s encourage and build eachother up and not the opposite! Let’s come together for a better opportunity at the American dream!
