Welcome to 99 E. Bells Mill Road in Chestnut Hill, a neighborhood perched at the northwestern edge of Philly and the surrounding ‘burbs! Filled with stately residences on well-manicured grounds, the area also benefits from having a 7-mile forest running through it. 🌳🦌

99 E. Bells Mill Road is a stunning example of a classic Chestnut Hill home, showcasing elegance, old-world charm, and a fine attention to detail. Built in 1925, the home was designed by the architectural firm of Willing, Sims, and Talbott in an English country style. 🇬🇧

Fully renovated in 2024, this meticulously cared for estate is filled with custom millwork, hardwood floors, light-filled hallways lined with French doors, and oh, so much space! ✨:

•3 separate wings
•6 🛏️ / 5 🛁
•Over 4,000 square feet of living space📏
•Nearly 2 acres of wonderfully landscaped grounds
•A grand bluestone terrace perfect for entertaining
•A 2-🚗 garage and driveway with space for at least 6+ more!

And those are just some of highlights! Make sure to visit before this piece of the English countryside gets snatched up! 😍

Welcome to Drexel Hill, a lovely suburb located to the southwest of downtown Philadelphia! With around 30,000 inhabitants, the neighborhood is believed to be named after the prominent Drexel family who had a large estate in this area during the late 19th/early 20th century. There are many places carrying this name in the Philadelphia region — namely Drexel University, to start with! 🎓

Anywho, pictured is one of Drexel Hill’s fine single family homes, which I passed by chance on a run the other day. 🏃🏻‍♂️

I did a bit of research and found that the home was built in 1920 in the Georgian Colonial style and has...:

•5 🛌/3.5 🛁
•2,865 square feet 📏
•Situated on nearly 1/3 of an acre parcel 🌳
•2-car garage/carriage house 🚗🚙
•Stunning original wood floors with inlay ✨

Just another reason to explore Philly and the area around it! ☺️

Welcome to this magnificent pre-Civil War-era mansion in East Germantown! Tucked away on a quiet lane in NW Philly, you almost feel like you’re transported back in time to an old country estate.

While not currently on the market for sale, I did a little digging and was able to find out the following:

Referred to as the “Rigby Mansion”, it appears to have been built around 1852 in the Italianate style. Several features typical of this style can be seen throughout, such as projecting eaves supported by ornamental brackets. Aspects of the home also remind me of Victorian architecture, such as the gingerbread-like arches along the wraparound porch.

The house is quite an impressive one with 6 beds / 3.5 baths, and nearly 5,000 square feet of living space! The plot of land the home sits on is also quite generous, with over an acre of outdoor space to roam around in.

Rigby Mansion is no longer a private residence, but instead operates as a fairly well-known event venue and place for musicians to play and perform for small audiences. So, if you’re looking for a local (and unique place) for live music, this definitely is it! 🎶

Welcome to the (original) Frick, a small complex of museums and historical buildings located in Pittsburgh! Founded by Henry Clay Frick, an art collector and industrialist, the grounds are very well manicured and feature the family’s original mansion — “Clayton” — as well as a large greenhouse, a Car and Carriage Museum, and the Frick Art Museum.

While not a car aficionado, I found the family’s vintage collection quite interesting — even taking one of them for a “test drive” (minus the actual driving part!). The art museum was very cozy and featured a small, but well-curated selection of artwork from the Middle Ages to today. Clayton (the family residence) was sadly closed by the time we got there, but would have been fun to explore! Built in the 1860s, and remodeled in the 1880s, I can only imagine the grandeur of the interior! 🤩

Entrance to the grounds and museums is free, so I highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area! ☺️

Welcome to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA! While on a recent trip to western PA, I saw the school’s basilica from the road, and thought I had entered a little European town. I got closer to explore and spent the next hour or so stomping through the foot-high snow-covered campus. ❄️

Founded in 1846 by Benedictine monk Boniface Wimmer to educate German immigrants and train priests, the school is currently a private, 4-year liberal arts college. 📚

The main building on campus is the Archabbey Basilica, seen here with its stunning pinkish-red facade, snow at its feet, and towers soaring into the sky. Designed in the Romanesque style by architect J. William Schickel in 1905, the building saw a major restoration in 1995. Currently, around 150 monks call the campus home, and serve in a variety of education and outreach roles. 🔔

Welcome to the western (Philly) suburb of Bala Cynwyd! Not only did yours truly go to high school around here, but it’s also full of some pretty lovely homes!

This golden 6bed/3bath residence was built in 1904 in the Colonial Revival style.

Notice the trademark characteristics of this type of architectural style!:

•Symmetry: the house features a balanced design with a centered front door and windows evenly spaced on either side ⚖️

•Classical Entryway: the front door is flanked by decorative trellises, reflecting the style’s interest in traditional ornamentation 🥀

•Dormer Windows: these are the windows set into the sloping roof, a typical feature used to enhance space and light on upper floors ☀️

•Hip Roof: the steep roofline seen here is characteristic of homes from this period

The things you learn! 😊
