As technicians, it’s hard to know if a squatter is present in a vacant home unless you inspect it regularly, but they often hide and run when they hear someone enter, then return unless you secure the property.

✅ How to Identify a Squatter in a Vacant Home
Squatters target vacant, poorly watched properties, so the best defense is to never leave an opening and to inspect vacant units often.

Here are key signs:
Locked doors/windows that have been broken or forced
Mail pileup or forwarded mail indicating the home is unoccupied
Overgrown yard, abandoned look, or lack of maintenance
Extra beds, clothes, or personal belongings found during inspection
Unusual activity at night (e.g., car present at midnight or 4 AM)
No Trespassing signs missing or damaged

How to Secure a Vacant Home and Prevent Squatters from returning:
