Is there really a perfect time to sell your home? 🏡

In Friday’s Around the Block, I talked about the slower start to this year’s fall real estate market and why trying to time the market isn't always the best strategy.

Some years, things pick up in October. Other years, like last year, the market doesn't really get moving until November or December.

My advice? Sell when the timing works for you, and make sure your home is fully prepared before it hits the market. Rushing a home onto the market before it's ready can cost you both time and money.

A tough week for the Birds, and some big news that goes well beyond another loss. 🦅

In Friday’s Around the Block, I reflected on Lane Johnson’s sudden retirement after 14 seasons with the Eagles.

Two Super Bowl championships, six Pro Bowls, five All-Pro selections, and a career spent entirely in Philadelphia. One of the greatest Eagles of all time, without question. 🏆

But what I admire just as much is his leadership and his willingness to speak openly about mental health. That takes real courage, especially in the NFL.

Friday’s Around the Block was all about Philly sports, and unfortunately, there wasn’t a whole lot of good news. ⚾🦅🏒🏀

The Phillies are out after a pretty brutal finish to the season. The Flyers have started slowly, but I’m still confident the Orange & Black will bounce back. 🏒

And the Birds? I wrote on Friday that I was still confident they would turn things around, despite a pretty ugly 2-1 start. Then came yesterday’s tough loss. 😬 I can’t say it came as THAT big of a surprise after watching those first three games, but I’m still sticking with my 12-5 prediction.

And then there are the Sixers. 👀 Back in June, I thought they had the least promising future of our four teams. Things change! LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, VJ Edgecombe and company have me feeling a whole lot better.

This week in Around the Block, I took a detour to talk about Dolly Parton. 🎶

I’ve never followed her music particularly closely, but I’ve always admired what a class act she is. So I dug into a few things that really stood out to me, including her unlikely trip into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, her Rockstar album, turning down two Presidential Medals of Freedom, her approach to politics, her generosity, and some classic Dolly quotes. 😂

And, of course, I had to give “9 to 5” its due. That song does rock. 🎸

GOOD NEWS. CRIME IS DOWN IN PHILLY. 📉

According to recent data, violent crime is down, homicides are down 25% from this time last year, and reported shooting victims are down 35%.

So, have Batman and Spider-Man finally moved to Philly? 🦇🕷️ Probably not.

There are plenty of real factors behind the decline, and I got into those in last week’s Around the Block. But whatever the reason, fewer people being harmed and an improvement in quality of life is good news for Philadelphia.

Labor Day weekend may be behind us, but I found the history of the holiday worth revisiting. 🇺🇸

Most of us think of Labor Day as the unofficial end of summer, BBQs, the shore, and one last long weekend. ☀️ But its origins are tied to some pretty intense chapters in American history, including labor strikes, protests, violence, and the fight for better working conditions.

I dug into the history in last week’s Around the Block. Turns out there’s a lot more to Labor Day than the last pool weekend of summer. 📚

🦅 In case you missed last week's Around the Block...

I shared my thoughts on why Philadelphia Eagles preseason games are actually the perfect way to take kids to their first football game.

Less standing, less intensity, easier parking, plenty of food, and you can head home at halftime without missing much. 😄

Meanwhile, the players on the field are often competing for one of the biggest opportunities of their lives, which makes for a pretty good lesson along the way.
