Take Action, Take Action, Take Action
St. Luke’s Gun Buyback Event
August 3rd, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
5421 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA, 19144
Phoebe Griswold was originally told she couldn’t do it. Organize a gun buyback event? Pay people to turn in their guns?
No one who knows Phoebe would ever bet against her. Did she ever prove the naysayers wrong!
Last year St. Luke’s raised a total of $22,000. $200 gift cards were paid for each gun turned in which means 110 fewer guns—including 4 AK-47s--- would never kill anyone, especially children. Sadly, more people showed up with guns than there was money to pay for them.
Let’s make sure that does not happen again this year!
Phoebe said that most of the guns that were turned in were guns from homes. “Grannies will bring a gun in not even knowing it’s loaded. They feel safe turning them in to a church because they know no questions are asked,” Griswold said. She added that these are guns adults buy and kids find and play with, unaware that they’re loaded and dangerous. Last year, 23 children were killed by guns in Philadelphia. There were a total of 387 other gun homicides in the city.
Here’s more information from St. Luke’s:
Since the start of 2024, there have been over 261 mass shootings (4 or more victims) reported in America. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Germantown has partnered with the Father’s Day Rally Committee and the City Council of Philadelphia, to host a gun buyback event on its campus on Saturday August 3, 2024, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
