James Seppala is a Senior Managing Director in Blackstone’s Real Estate Group and the Head of Real Estate Europe, based in London. Since joining Blackstone in 2011, Mr. Seppala has been involved in a number of Blackstone’s investments across Europe. Before Blackstone, Mr. Seppala was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs & Co, where he spent 10 years focused on equity and debt investments in Europe and the United States. He chairs the European Advisory Board of the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center at the Wharton School.
Michael Swank is a Managing Director in the Real Estate Group based in London. Mr. Swank focuses on Blackstone’s real estate acquisitions in Germany and the Nordics. Since joining Blackstone in 2010, Mr. Swank has been involved in a number of Blackstone’s investments in Europe and the U.S., including Dream Global, Hembla (D. Carnegie), Obligo, Sponda, and Hilton Worldwide. He graduated summa cm laude from UPenn, where he received a BS in Economics from the Wharton School.

WUREC Distressed Investing Series: John Murray, Pimco Head of Commercial Real Estate for the Americas

The Wharton Undergraduate Real Estate Club is proud to officially announce the second event of our virtual distressed real estate investing series on Zoom.
Please join us for a fireside chat and open discussion with John Murray on Tuesday, June 16th from 5:30-6:30 PM EST. Mr. Murray, a Wharton alum, is a Managing Director at Pimco and currently serves as the Head of Commercial Real Estate for the Americas. He was instrumental in the establishment of Pimco’s commercial real estate funds, and he has a large wealth of insight into the current and future state of CRE markets throughout North and South America.

Prior to joining PIMCO in 2009, he structured real estate transactions throughout the U.S. at JER Partners. Before JER Partners, Mr. Murray was in commercial real estate development and construction and also served as a combat engineer officer with the U.S. Army. He has 19 years of investment experience and holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a master's degree in civil engineering from MIT and a bachelor's degree from Lehigh University.

Undergraduates from Wharton Business School won the top prize of $10,000 at the ninth annual Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition

WUREC's Spring Kick-off GBM will take place tonight (1/18) at 7 pm (note time change) in Huntsman G55. We will reveal our plans for the semester, including our already-planned NYC trek (Friday, 2/3), plans for Washington D.C. and Miami treks, as well as on-campus speaker events and many other upcoming opportunities. Zestos pizza will be served.

WUREC won Wharton Council's Most Innovative Event award at the Wharton Club Awards Night! We received this award for our first-ever Miami trek, which took place on April 8, 2016.

WUREC's first-ever Miami trek was an incredible success! Sixteen WUREC members toured SLS Brickell, visited the Miami World Center sales center, heard presentations by 13th Floor, Edens, Goldman Properties, Koniver Stern, Crescent Heights, and a real estate entrepreneur, and toured Faena House, Faena Hotel, and SLS Hotel Miami Beach.
