Piano Update:

Not a positive update.

The most important key on the piano is the sustain pedal, and I am losing control over it. First muddy sound as the toe weakly lifts, and too late, then only half-pedal or none when the same toe is supposed to press down. Damn diabetes. Diabetic shoes don’t help either—they’re for walking and purposely are a size too big.

(Thank you for reading this rant, in which I tell you I don’t like much about old age. All I have left is my supposed wisdom, which, it turns out, is all remarkably ignorant crap.)

The attribution is questionable. The correct wording varies considerably. I like it anyway.

/ Francis Bacon /
"Francis Bacon, 1st Viscount St Alban, also known as Lord Verulam, was an English philosopher and statesman who served as Attorney General and as Lord Chancellor of England. His works are seen as contributing to the scientific method and remained influential through the later stages of the scientific revolution. Bacon has been called the father of empiricism. He argued for the possibility of scientific knowledge based only upon inductive reasoning and careful observation of events in nature. Most importantly, he argued that science could be achieved by the use of a sceptical and methodical approach whereby scientists aim to avoid misleading themselves. Although his most specific proposals about such a method, the Baconian method, did not have long-lasting influence, the general idea of the importance and possibility of a sceptical methodology makes Bacon one of the later founders of the scientific method.
