Baby Copperheads from NOW THROUGH NOVEMBER. This photo came from a High Point Animal Control Officer who reminds us that it is baby copperhead season. As the officer said (I wasn’t able to copy/post the article) copperheads like damp areas so watch around toys, dog bowls, flower pots, etc. IN ADDITION, wear closed shoes when out in the grass in the event that you inadvertently step on one. You can see from the photo how tiny they are but they also inject a proportionately large amount of venom because they lack the control of the adults. Baby copperheads have a yellow/green tail tip as an additional way to ID.
