The Snail 🐠🐟: Stuck to one rock, same spot, same pace, no matter what the tide does. When the current shifts (and yesterday it shifted HARD) the snail just gets pounded by water it never saw coming. It didn't adapt because it wasn't built to.

The Fish πŸŸπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ: Already moving. Already in the current. When the flow changes direction overnight (like, say, the government yanking two frontier AI models off the market in a single afternoon), the fish doesn't panic β€” it just adjusts its angle and keeps going. It was built for the swim.

The lesson: agents who are "in the water" already... using AI, testing tools, building workflows... can absorb a shock like the Fable 5/Mythos 5 shutdown and barely break stride.

They've got other tools, other workflows, other models to lean on.

Agents who haven't gotten in the water yet? They don't even feel the current changing. They're stuck on the rock, business as usual, until one day the whole ecosystem has moved past them and they're left wondering what happened.

It's not about picking the "right" AI tool. It's about being the kind of creature that can move when the water does. So the question isn't "which AI tool should I use?"
It's: are you the snail, or are you the fish?

What it takes to be middle class varies widely by state, according to a Visual Capitalist analysis of SmartAsset, Census Bureau, and Pew Research Center data, which defines middle class as households earning between two-thirds and twice the median income. Massachusetts tops the list at $69,900, followed by New Jersey at $69,500 and Maryland at $68,600, all anchored by expensive metros. Yet a middle-class income in those states would only afford a home priced between $315,000 and $320,000, well below their median listing prices. At the other end, Mississippi requires just $39,400, where homes can be found for $150,000 to $200,000.

LA County just lost 54,000 people in a year, the largest numeric population drop of any county in the country. And if you drove through LA right now looking for the neighborhoods people have abandoned, you wouldn’t find them. Housing demand is still strong. Vacancy rates are still low. The decline is real, but it’s invisible, which is what makes it harder to talk about than a city that’s visibly falling apart.

The part that’s harder to shake is the fertility rate. LA is sitting at 1.43%, well below the 2.1% needed just to replace the population. The future homebuyers, the future workers, the people who are supposed to step up and pay what boomers think their homes are worth, there are fewer of them being born every single year. Immigration used to fill that gap. It’s not filling it anymore. Whether that matters to your market in the next five years or the next twenty is the question worth asking.
