Mexico has taken a major step for animals.

The country has banned animal testing for cosmetics and also banned the sale of cosmetics that rely on animal tests.

For decades, rabbits, mice, and guinea pigs were used in painful experiments to test makeup, shampoo, and other beauty products. Many of these tests caused burning, blindness, or death. Animal advocates have long argued that these tests are cruel and unnecessary because modern science now offers safer and more reliable alternatives.

Mexico’s decision sends a strong message. Beauty products should not come at the cost of animal suffering. By passing this law, Mexico became the first country in North America to ban cosmetic animal testing nationwide.

Supporters hope this move will push other countries, including the United States, to follow with stronger nationwide protections. Several U.S. states have already taken steps to restrict the sale of animal tested cosmetics, but there is still no federal ban.

For many advocates, this is more than a policy change. It is proof that public pressure and compassion can lead to real progress for animals.
