Tell me your favorite memory at your grandparents’ house.

Not the square footage. Not the upgrades. The actual memory.

Maybe it was cannonballs in the pool until the sun went down. Maybe it was cousins packed into a playroom making up imaginary worlds. Maybe it was squeezing around a table for Sunday dinner while someone yelled that dessert was ready.

Who decided May should be this jam packed?! 🫠

Like... End of school events (looking at you, spirit week, field day, and teacher appreciation week), sports, graduations, Mother’s Day... What am I forgetting?

And if that’s not enough to juggle, the summer real estate market is also heating up ☀️☀️

I don’t list homes like this often.

You know the kind, I mean, the ones that feel like they were waiting for the right family to walk through the door. Where the kitchen is already imagining Sunday dinners.

Where the backyard already knows how loud the cannonballs are going to be. Where there’s a whole room just for the kids; playroom, game room, fort headquarters, whatever they decide it is this week.

Four bedrooms. Two and a half baths. A third of an acre with real grass and real shade. A diving pool. An extended patio built for long evenings. A four-car garage that doesn’t need explaining. And the kind of home that, the second you stand in it, you can already see your life there.
Some houses are just houses.

They came to me at one of the hardest moments of their year.

The home they wanted was off the table. Their landlord was selling. They had two months to be out and six kids who needed somewhere to land.

We found THE home, and the message I got after they walked through it has stayed with me:

"You didn't get us home. You got us peace."

Here's the truth I've been sitting with lately. The world isn't handing out stability right now. Interest rates move. Markets shift. Plans change. The ground keeps moving under all of us.

So if I can't promise stability in a season that won't sit still, what can I promise?

My brother and I once pulled brownies out of the oven that looked more like bricks.

The recipe called for a cup of eggs. We guessed two. Spoiler: that's not how that works.

My mom came home, took one look at the situation, and laughed, "How are you both getting straight A's right now?" Then she grabbed a measuring cup, cracked eggs into it until it was full, and showed us what a cup of eggs really looked like.

(For the record, mom is still the baker in the family. She bakes more than a hundred pies for my clients every Thanksgiving. It's how I became known around here as the Pie REALTOR. The torch did not pass.)

Here's why that memory stays with me.

Even the smartest, most capable people get stuck the moment they're standing in uncharted territory. It's never about how smart you are. The unfamiliar trips up even the brightest of us.

Real estate is its own kitchen with its own recipes. Most of the people I work with are sharp. They run companies, raise families, and handle hard things every day. Then they sit at a closing table and realize they've never read a purchase contract in their lives. That's just a kitchen no one has invited them into yet.

That's where I come in. My job is to be the mom in the brownie story: the one who walks in, sees the bricks on the cookie sheet, and says, "Here. Let me show you what that's supposed to look like." No judgment. Just a measuring cup.
