Then mortgage rates went up. Again. 📈

And suddenly, the monthly payment you were comfortable with looks different.

If you’re hoping to buy a home in Central Ohio, here’s what you need to know. 👇

The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate reached 7.40%.

That’s seven consecutive weekly increases.

But what does that actually mean?

🏡 Imagine buying a $400,000 home with 20% down.

At 6.65% in August, your principal and interest payment was approximately $2,070/month.

At 7.40%?

Approximately $2,215.

That’s $145 more every month for the same house.

No extra bedroom. No bigger backyard.

Just a higher borrowing cost.

But something else is happening.

21% of sellers nationwide have reduced their asking prices.

Some sellers are adjusting their expectations as buyers become more cautious.

And that creates an opportunity.

Higher mortgage rates don’t automatically mean lower home prices.

Many homeowners are reluctant to sell because they’re holding mortgages with much lower rates.

So fewer buyers and fewer sellers can exist in the same market.

What should you do if you’re thinking about buying?

🔹 Start with a comfortable monthly payment, not your maximum approval.

It’s to understand whether buying makes sense for you.

Six Flags is asking select passholders to weigh in on possible names that would add the company brand to Cedar Point. 🎢

Among the concepts reportedly tested:

• Cedar Point by Six Flags
• Six Flags Cedar Point
• Cedar Point: A Six Flags Experience
• Six Flags Over North Ohio

Before anyone starts replacing the signs, Six Flags says these are only research concepts and no decision has been made.

A similar survey was also sent to Kings Island passholders.

Still, when a park has been known as Cedar Point for more than 150 years, even testing a name like “Six Flags Over North Ohio” is going to get Ohioans talking.

Bayer’s decision wasn’t simply about available land.

The company pointed to Central Ohio’s skilled workforce, growing life-sciences industry and investments in specialized training as major reasons it selected New Albany for its new pharmaceutical manufacturing campus.

The facility is expected to:

• Manufacture pharmaceutical ingredients and finished prescription medications
• Initially support treatments for cancer, cardiovascular disease and kidney disease
• Create approximately 1,500 construction jobs
• Create approximately 600 permanent, high-paying jobs
• Begin pharmaceutical ingredient production in 2031, followed by finished drug manufacturing in 2034

Bayer will join a growing group of life-sciences employers in the New Albany International Business Park, including Amgen, American Regent, Hims & Hers and Pharmavite.

Workforce preparation played a major role in the decision. The new Ohio Life Science Training Center is scheduled to open in New Albany in summer 2027 and will train Ohio workers for advanced biomanufacturing careers.

The impact won’t happen overnight, and one announcement doesn’t automatically determine home values. But an investment of this size can influence job growth, infrastructure, housing demand and future development across northeast Central Ohio.
