Several rare San Francisco lots sold at auction Tuesday for eyebrow-raising sums, even in a city known for shocking prices. Located near the shoreline close to Candlestick Park, the lots were billed as “a unique opportunity,” with each offering 5,000 square feet, or about 1/10 of an acre of land. The lots sold for less than $1,000 a piece, but there was a catch, of course.

Finding a gas station in the Bay Area has become more difficult in recent years as hundreds of stations have closed, driven in part by the high cost of removing potentially dangerous underground storage tanks and complying with state law.

In San Francisco's Mission District, a Shell station remains out of service while its steel tanks are replaced - a process that can be complex and hazardous.

During one removal, gasoline vapors inside a tank caused an explosion, underscoring the risks involved.

Housing prices in the Bay Area have never been higher. The stock market keeps climbing to new records — mainly because of a single tech sector. The 2007 vibes are strong. That was the year the housing bubble burst, tied to the subprime mortgage crisis that triggered the Great Recession.

But do all the parallels indicate that we’re in another bubble — and that the housing market could again be poised to crash?

Mortgage rates are high and buyers are pulling back. So why aren’t Bay Area home prices crashing? An economist explains.

A rare opportunity is coming for Bay Area real estate investors and bargain hunters alike. Alameda County is set to auction off 256 tax-defaulted properties through the online platform Bid4Assets later this month — the only auction of its kind currently taking place in the Bay Area. The sale is scheduled to run March 20-23, with all parcels offered at no reserve, meaning there is no minimum price the county needs to hit in order for a sale to go through.

The sale is scheduled to start later this month.

irst-time homebuyers in California are in for some much-needed help in the form of a down payment. Applications are now open for the California Dream For All shared Appreciation Loan.

The program offers up to 20% down payment assistance or closing costs, which cannot be more than $150,000.

A homebuyer must register for the voucher—this is done through a random drawing that will select registrants who'll receive the voucher. It is not first come, first serve.

Applications are now open for California homebuyers to receive down payment assistance from the state, but there's a catch.
