Here's some really great options for Fall activities here in Gatlinburg and the surrounding Smoky Mountain areas. Are you visiting this Fall? If so, what activities do you have planned or have on your bucket list? I'm excited about going to all of the Fall festivals in the Smokies and going to the Chili Cookoff in Gatlinburg.

🏔️ SMOKY MOUNTAINS 2026 CROWD CALENDAR — SEPTEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER! 🍂🎄

Planning a trip to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg or the Smokies for the rest of 2026? SAVE THIS! 📌

I mapped out my expected crowd levels for every day through the end of the year based on typical travel patterns, holidays, major events, fall foliage season and what we normally see here in the Smokies.

🟢 Low
🟡 Moderate
🟠 High
🔴 Very High
⚫ EXTREME

A few periods you definitely need to know about:

🚗 Labor Day Weekend: Sept. 4–7
🏁 Fall Rod Run: Sept. 17–19
🍂 October: Expect crowds ALL MONTH, especially mid-to-late October as fall colors peak
🦃 Thanksgiving Week: Nov. 22–29
🎄 Christmas through New Year’s: Expect some of the heaviest holiday crowds of the year

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that only the last couple weeks of October are busy. October as a whole is BUSY in the Smokies. Weekends can be especially packed, and once peak fall colors arrive, even weekdays can feel like weekends!

On the flip side, there are some GREAT lower-crowd weekdays in November and early December if your schedule is flexible. 👀

Some advice from a local. If you want to visit without all the traffic then take her advice. But whatever you do, stay at Hat’s Hideaway for the best experience.
