Sloping floors in an older home are not automatically a dealbreaker, or even a problem. 🏡

Most of the time, they are just the house doing what houses do: settling over decades as wood dries, shifts, and finds its balance.

The key is knowing which kind you have.

A gradual, consistent slope in a 100-year-old farmhouse? Almost certainly normal. Floors that are getting visibly worse, doors that suddenly will not latch, or a slope you can measure in inches? That is worth a closer look from a structural engineer or inspector.

The other thing nobody talks about? In the right home, sloping floors are a selling point. Cottage buyers and historic home enthusiasts often love them. Character is hard to fake.

If you are looking at an older home and not sure what to make of what you are seeing, that is exactly what a good agent and a thorough inspection are for.
