We took a tour of Alcosan ( allegheny county sewage authority) for the home Inspectors from PRO-ASHI. John F. ( engineer from Alcosan) our guide as we learned about what happens to all the waste in sewers from about 800,000 Pittsburghers. There was a newer employee who handled the soil engineering who attended the tour and educated us as to how the waste particles are utilized as class B fertilizer. The water that flows into the plant is raw sewage and flows back into the river cleaner than the actual river water after treatment. The treatment removes solid particles and allows biological action to occur. Presently the plant is handling about 230,000,000 gallons per day. With the new upgrades they should be able to handle up to 600 million!! Excellent tour, thank you to all those who attended.

Great Photos.

Yesterday I posted a video (This Old House) showing an anode rod being removed from a water heater. Today many anode rods are actually hanging from the hot water outlet. The water flows through the opening in the top. In the images below you can see where I removed the hot water fitting because no anode could be found in the top of the heater. A hot water outlet/anode rod was observed (image C). It was completely depleted (image D). If you recommend anode replacement but don't see the fitting at the top of the heater, suggest they check the hot water fitting first before trying to remove the top.
