Jacqueline “Jacqui” Morby, prolific trustee, philanthropist, world traveler and the finance world’s “Queen of Software,” died on May 12 at home in Cambridge, Mass. She was 88.
“My mom broke the mold,” her daughter Michelle Morby said.
In 1978, she began her trailblazing career in software investment at the Boston-based TA Associates — then the largest venture capital firm in the world. There, she would make seminal investments in software companies such as Pittsburgh’s Ansys (now Synopsys) and former video game developer, Sierra On-Line.
“My mom was going to business school in 1978. She was not a dude at Harvard Business School who had fratted it up with her boys, and then could call on them and say, ‘Hey, what should I do? Who should I talk to about software?’” Michelle said. “She was like, ‘I don’t have an old boys network, I have to literally create my network.’”
