For those who know me, you know how deeply Alzheimer's has touched our family.

My mom has always been a force of nature. At 18, she left her home in Ohio on a bus to Washington, D.C., for a government secretarial job. Over a 40-year career with the Department of Defense, she worked her way up to a GS-15 Budget Analyst. When she retired to Fayetteville, West Virginia, she didn't stop—she launched a second, 25-year career running the office at my uncle's law firm.

She has always been my mentor: brilliant, calm, meticulous, and the person I turned to for life’s toughest questions.

When the memory loss started, it felt like it hit overnight. It began with small things—forgetting ingredients while baking a cake, misplacing items—and slowly grew into losing the sharp organization that defined her entire life. Yet through it all, her heart remains unchanged: sweet, kind, funny, and unfailingly faithful.

Even in moments of clarity regarding her diagnosis, she looks at me and says, ""You know Lisa, we have a mighty God, and He can heal me and I know He will."" Her conviction comforts me every single day.

This disease is relentless, but hope is stronger. Research is making incredible strides toward a future where treatment could be as simple as taking a daily pill.
