The internet loves a simple villain.

It’s easy to point at commissions and call it greed. Much harder to understand what actually goes into earning one.

This business isn’t a salary. It’s volatility, risk, and a long stretch of uncertainty before anything pays off.

Most people don’t see the months of unpaid work, the deals that fall apart, or the constant pressure to stay relevant in a crowded market.

They see the closing check. Not the cost of getting there.

And here’s the uncomfortable truth: the gap between perception and reality is massive.

A small percentage thrives. The majority are grinding just to stay in the game.

So when people say agents are “overpaid,” what they’re really reacting to is visibility, not the full picture.

If you’ve ever bet on yourself in a commission-based world, you already know: nothing about it is guaranteed.
