As we approach the anniversary of September 11, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who emerged, and the communities forever changed.
Here in Western Pennsylvania, the story is especially personal. After Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, first responders from Somerset County, Pittsburgh, and surrounding communities answered the call, serving with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
That is why being part of 9/11 Dinners is such an honor.
Inspired by the selfless service witnessed on 9/11, Josie White started a simple act of gratitude that has grown into a movement honoring Police, Fire, and EMS personnel. As one of this year's coordinators, I am proud to help continue that mission.
My hope is that one day this tradition will stretch along historic Route 30, beginning in Pittsburgh, passing near the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, and expanding community by community across America all the way to Oregon.
