The 2026 National Coffee Data Trends (NCDT) Fall Report from the National Coffee Association shows that 66% of American adults drink coffee daily, keeping it America's favorite beverage.
Specialty coffee hit a new record with 48% of adults drinking it daily, beating traditional coffee consumption for the past day.
General Consumption
• Daily habits: 66% of Americans drink coffee every day, beating all other beverages like bottled or tap water.
• Total volume: Americans drink roughly 454 million cups of coffee daily.
• Timing: 86% of daily coffee drinkers have their cup first thing in the morning.
At-Home vs. Out-of-Home
• At-home: 83% of past-day coffee drinkers make and drink their coffee at home.
• Out-of-home: Away-from-home consumption reached 38%, which is the highest rate since January 2020 and nearing pre-pandemic levels.
• Drive-thru: 55% of out-of-home weekly coffee buyers pick up their drinks at a drive-thru.
Specialty and Espresso Trends
• Specialty high: 48% of adults drank specialty coffee in the past day, surpassing traditional coffee (42%).
• Espresso growth: 47% of Americans had an espresso-based beverage (like lattes, mochas, or cappuccinos) in the past week.
• Age demographics: Young adults ages 25 to 39 lead specialty trends, with 69% drinking specialty coffee in a given week
