Mortgage rates dropped to 6.23% for the week ending April 23 the lowest seen during the past three spring homebuying seasons. This decline follows the announcement of an indefinite U.S. Iran ceasefire by President Trump. Compared to this time last year, when rates averaged 6.81%, today’s lower rates are creating more opportunities for buyers. According to Freddie Mac’s chief economist Sam Khater, the combination of falling rates, rising purchase applications, and increased refinance activity points to growing momentum in the housing market.
