It is with bittersweetness that we announce that after over a decade of serving our families, residents, and businesses of Plainfield, Naperville, and surrounding towns, that we are closing our doors.
As many of you know, Brian has been battling 2 different cancers and a car accident that almost took his life in the last 3 years. He has been through many months of treatments including chemo and radiation twice, brain surgery, and a car accident that left him unable to walk for months. He's been through lots of physical therapy, mental therapy, and emotional stress.
Through it all, we've been able to keep Generation Movers running, thanks to some hardworking and dedicated employees and my mom Jean who took over the office duties. But the time has come to let it go so Brian can focus on his own well being.
We started this business in the middle of the last recession. I lost my job and we were trying to put food on the table. It was just Brian and his sons at first, and we were called 'my dad and me for hire." We did odd labor jobs. Then we got asked to help a family move. Then their neighbor asked us, then we started to get referrals, and we decided to center our business on moving only. News spread quickly and we were in need of more employees quickly. Some customers wanted to know where 'Dad' was because we had multiple jobs going on at once and he couldn't be on all of them. So we changed our name, got legally licensed and Generation Movers was born.
Throughout the years, we've had some of the most incredible employees. We have watched some of them go through college, apprenticeships, and serve in the military. We even have a few originals who still work with us on occasion or when extra money is needed. Know this, we would be nothing without them. Our employees have been the heart and soul of our business from the beginning. Many are married now, some have children, some are still serving in the military, some have made their way into union jobs, and some are still young and working on their journeys.
Our employees are trained in being courteous, punctual and in uniform, tenacious, consistent, mechanically inclined, respectful, and many have grown onto leaders or are working their way up. We believe these skills will carry them throughout their lives in any career they choose to have. We will miss each and every one of you. There are so many stories and jokes throughout the years we have shared as we have worked together. And each of us has some weird or unique item we received from a customer, which was one of the best perks of working here, besides the people. We know our employees have made life long friendships with each other and they continue those friendships well beyond their time here at Generation Movers.
