Prairie Heritage Prairie Heritage Real Estate and Auction is a Plainville-based real estate and auction business. "Chick" Selbe as the supervising broker. Call 785-608-6683

Prairie Heritage Auction and Real Estate was started in 1976 with C.F. The reason the business's name was chosen was from a family history of both Chick and Margaret (Wise's) family settling in Rooks County at the turn of the century. Our mantra has always been "Plainville owned and Plainville proud." Susan Stahl joined the firm as a licensed real estate salesperson in 1978. Susan is an experienced salesperson with 43 years of experience in the Plainville real estate market. Whether selling or buying, we can help make the process simpler with our honesty, integrity, local knowledge, expertise, and our commitment to you. In 2012, Emery Jennings became the supervising broker. Jennings passed in December of 2021 and Shawn Phelps took over the supervising brokerage. The location of the office has moved to 1001 South Washington which is also our auction facility. Auctions are held the first Sunday or each month. Auction crew members include Sheila Hachmeister, Lora Weigel, Paula Glick, Kelly Lowry, Tammy Werner, Gwen Hitchcock, and Stephanie Nuss.

111 years to be exact. Hyatt Roller Bearing Company in the USA sponsored a nationwide contest for “the highest mileage on original equipment -Hyatt Roller Bearings.” Frank Slason, a Buick dealer, in Plainville, KS entered his Buick & won!
Slason’s first business was located at the former “donut shop” or current Paradise Flats Quilt Company and was a clothing store.
In 1908 he obtained a Buick dealership and in 1916 put up a two story building at a cost of $10k-still standing today and was the former Western Auto, Dessin Fournir, currently owned by RCHC. He used a Buick Model 16 to market his dealership. The car was raced at fairs, used in hill climbing contests & road endurance races locally and across the state which brought notoriety to Plainville, Kansas and his garage. In 1914, it was raced from Denver to Plainville 347 miles (12 hours 32 min.). The race followed the Red Line Highway which, at that time, was dirt or gravel & traveling through towns with hard corners and sometimes livestock.
It had 261,800 miles when Slason entered it into the nationwide contest in 1915. When he won it showed 272,963 miles. It was then taken on a nationwide tour after winning and eventually had 300k miles. Plainville, Kansas was front and center of the whole country with national ads. Notice the building in first photo and tire advertising in photo below and ad stories.
