A struggling tree doesn’t always need more water.

Especially in North Texas, the problem may actually be happening below ground. Compacted clay soil, poor drainage, planting depth, root damage, or years of heat and drought stress can all affect how well a tree takes up the water it’s already receiving.

A few things to watch for on your property:
• A thinning canopy or noticeably smaller leaves
• Dead branches or dieback at the tips
• Yellowing or browning leaves despite regular irrigation
• Water consistently standing around the base of the tree
• Changes after construction, grading, or heavy equipment has been nearby

Before increasing irrigation, it’s worth taking a closer look at what may actually be causing the stress. Sometimes **more water can make the problem worse**, particularly in our heavy North Texas clay soils.

A lower landscape bid doesn’t always mean a better price. Sometimes, you’re comparing apples to oranges.

We often see commercial landscape proposals that appear to cover the same scope, but when you look at the details, they’re not actually quoting the same service.

One proposal may include fewer labor hours per visit. Another may specify a shallower mulch depth, fewer seasonal color plants, smaller plant material, or fewer plants to fill the same bed space.

For example, both proposals may say “mulch,” but 1 inch and 3 inches of mulch aren’t the same service. Both may say “seasonal color,” but 500 plants and 800 plants won’t fill the same space the same way.

The same goes for weekly maintenance. How many crew members will be on your property, and how many labor hours are actually included?

Before choosing based on the bottom-line number, take a closer look at the quantities, specifications, materials, and labor behind it.

Make sure you’re comparing apples to apples — because the lowest price doesn’t mean much if you’re not buying the same thing.

As another summer comes to an end, we'd like to recognize our summer intern, Joe, and thank him for all of his hard work over the past few months.

This summer, Joe experienced many different aspects of the landscape industry. From working with our tree crews on storm cleanup and tree trimming to helping protect landscapes with preventative bagworm treatments, he wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty and learn something new each day.

One of the things Joe shared with us was that he was surprised by just how many different career opportunities exist within the landscape industry. It takes an entire team—from field crews and irrigation technicians to account managers, operations, mechanics, and office staff—to keep everything running smoothly and provide the level of service our clients expect.

Watching someone eager to learn and willing to step outside their comfort zone is always rewarding. Joe brought a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a genuine curiosity to every opportunity he was given.

Joe, thank you for spending your summer with Simpson Landscape. We appreciate your hard work and wish you all the best as you return to Texas State University this fall. We can't wait to see where your future takes you!

Your irrigation system doesn't need a broken sprinkler head to be wasting water.

Some of the most expensive irrigation problems we find are much harder to spot—mismatched sprinkler nozzles, overspray onto sidewalks and parking lots, zones that are overwatering some plants while underwatering others, or systems that have slowly drifted out of adjustment over the years.

A few signs it's time for an inspection:
💧 Water running onto pavement
💧 Areas that stay soggy
💧 Brown spots despite regular watering
💧 Higher-than-normal water bills

Small inefficiencies may not seem like much, but across a commercial property they can add up to thousands of dollars in wasted water and unnecessary repairs.

At Simpson Landscape, our licensed irrigation team helps commercial properties throughout DFW keep their systems running efficiently, protect plant health, and reduce water waste.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS...

A long-time Simpson Landscape employee is under investigation following reports of suspiciously high standards.

After a 23-year investigation, authorities have compiled the following charges against W***y DeLeon:

Count 1: Excessive inspection of every tree, shrub, and plant before it reaches a customer's property.

Count 2: Refusal to accept plants that don't meet company standards.

Count 3: Aggravated attention to detail while sourcing landscape materials.

Count 4: Operating an organized effort to keep an entire fleet of trucks, trailers, and equipment running smoothly.

Count 5: Unlawful prevention of breakdowns through regular maintenance.

Count 6: Repeatedly making sure crews have what they need before they leave the shop.

Count 7: Possession of an unusually sharp eye for quality.

Count 8: Creating unrealistic expectations for everyone who follows him.

Count 9: Demonstrating 23 consecutive years of loyalty, dedication, and pride in his work.

Witnesses report that because of W***y's actions, thousands of trees, shrubs, and landscape installations have started with quality materials, crews have stayed on the road, and countless properties across North Texas look better because of his commitment behind the scenes.

Congratulations to W***y DeLeon on 23 years with Simpson Landscape!

Thank you for everything you've done—and continue to do—for our team, our customers, and our company.

Here's to many more years!
