HOUSING MARKET UPDATE

The Mortgage Bankers Association recently reported to its members that the nationwide delinquency rate for home mortgages had declined to the lowest level since the third quarter of 2006, and the actual rate of foreclosure was at its lowest point since 2003.

Mortgage rates for new home loans remain at near-historic lows, with the average 30-year rate in February at 3.6% according the Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey.

At the same time, national home sales continue to rise, with low mortgage rates aiding homebuyer affordability amid a tight supply of homes for sale in many markets.

Closer to home, NTREIS MLS reports home sales during February in the Dallas-Fort Worth and North Texas market increased 22% over the same period in 2015. This is double the 11% increase nationwide reported by the National Association of Realtors' Chief Economist, Lawrence Yun, who stated that "The housing market has shown promising resilience in recent months..." and that "despite the global slowdown, the U.S. housing sector continues to recover."
