Does anyone else look in the mirror and still see their 17-year old self staring back at them?

Because if you had told 17-year-old Darby that one day I'd spend my days driving around DFW, showing houses, meeting clients for coffee, and sharing bits of my life on Instagram... I would've thought you were kidding ☕🏡

One summer, I helped clients buy their massive dream home on acreage in the country 🏡✨

A year later, they called me again.

Not because there was anything wrong with the house. It was exactly what they thought they wanted.

But acreage means a LOT of mowing 🚜

Living in the country means longer commutes 🚗

And having the kids in what felt like a completely different wing of the house got old FAST 😅

15 years ago, if you had asked me what my dream job was, I probably wouldn't have said real estate.

For 10+ years, I planned educational meetings and events, and I truly loved what I did.

Then life changed.

Rich received a promotion that meant more travel and more time in the office. At the same time, Vaughn was in 2nd grade and Beau was still in preschool. The early mornings, late nights, and travel that came with my career no longer fit the life we wanted for our family.

So I quietly started working on my real estate license as a backup plan.

Leaving a job I loved—and a steady paycheck—was scary. But around the same time we were trying to figure out our next step, Rich received an unexpected bonus that gave us the cushion we needed for me to take the leap.

What I didn't realize then was how much my previous career had prepared me for this one.

The organization.
The contracts.
The timelines.
The attention to detail.
The project management.
The spreadsheets. 😉

Now, more than 300 homes sold later, I get to help people navigate one of the biggest milestones of their lives every day.

Looking back, I can see that what felt like a leap of faith was really the beginning of exactly where I was supposed to be 💙🏡
