“Who are you?”

Simple question. Hard answer.

Not your title.
Not your job.
Not what you own.

That’s what I liked about this clip.

It made me reflect. Sometimes we get so focused on business and what we do that we forget there’s more to who we are.

And in the AI era, I think personal brand matters even more. Technology can help us communicate, but people still connect with the person behind it.

That’s one reason I want The Sonny Chung Podcast to go beyond real estate and capital markets and talk more about personal and professional growth.

Over the next 12 episodes, I want to explore how we understand ourselves, understand others, and build better relationships.

For me, that’s the long game.

Business may bring us together.
Relationships are what make it last.

So I’ll leave you with the same question from this video: Who are you beyond what you do?

Today, one of my private capital partners a family office called me.

“Sonny, how’s the deal pipeline?”

I told them, “Everything we have is already in the works. We’re focused on getting those deals across the finish line.”

Their response?

“Well, we’re looking for more opportunities.”

That’s a good problem to have.

Humility over ego.

One thing I’ve learned from working with successful sponsors, developers, and business leaders: the ones who have accomplished the most often have the least to prove.

Their track record speaks for itself. No need for the ego.

That’s the kind of character I respect and the kind of people I want to build long-term relationships with.

Success isn’t just what people see from the outside.

It’s who you become on the inside.
