WINTER WEATHER UPDATE 1/27/2026 - 9 am
ROAD CONDITIONS
There is a significant amount of ice on roads and parking lots this morning. Anyone who must travel is encouraged to use extreme caution and drive slowly. While rising temperatures will melt much of the ice this afternoon, any water that is left will refreeze overnight.
Our Public Works department staff will continue to monitor and treat intersections as needed, and will also work to clear storm drains so that as the water melts, the roads can dry faster.
FACILITY UPDATES
While the City is open to serve you, these are some service changes for Tuesday, January 27.
The following facilities are closed:
- All Recreation facilities and Library locations are closed.
- The Animal Shelter is closed to the public. Staff are on site caring for animals.
- The Day Labor Center is closed.
The following facilities and services will be delayed:
- The Plano Municipal Court will open at NOON (New Time) on Tuesday, January 27.
TRASH AND RECYCLING SERVICE DELAYED
You may have received your weekly electronic collection alert. However, due to winter weather conditions, residential trash and recycling services will be delayed.
If your normal collection day is Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, place your cart out for service on Wednesday. Thursday carts should be at the collection point as usual. Please place trash cart at the collection point by 7 AM. Only trash will be collected this week. Keep your cart at the collection point until it is serviced.
Regular trash and recycling collection schedules will resume next week. Yard debris collection is temporarily suspended until the week of February 9.
Thank you for your patience! Our crews continue to monitor road and alley conditions, adjusting service as needed.
EARLY VOTING UPDATE
All polling locations for the January 31, 2026 Special Election are closed today. Polls will be open for Election Day. Additional updates will be posted on the Collin County and Denton County Elections Department websites.
PROTECT YOUR PIPES
Temperatures remain freezing. Pipe bursts are one of the biggest risks during winter weather. Protect your home’s pipes! Steadily drip faucets and open cabinet doors to allow air to circulate. If you have a burst pipe, knowing how to shut off your water can help prevent major damage. Watch this video to learn how: https://youtu.be/d5lnwWiBfFg
