Protecting the safety of residents and property is a high priority for Plant City.
Anywhere it rains it can flood. A heavy afternoon downpour can turn into a life-threatening and financially devastating flood in the blink of an eye. Hurricanes and tropical storms increase the danger from flooding.
Plant City is working hard to reduce flood insurance rates by implementing proactive floodplain management activities to reduce flood risk across the county. This approach has earned residents flood insurance discount of 20 percent on their annual premiums.
Plant City offers the following services at no cost:
• Flood map information services are available to determine if a property is in a high, moderate, or low risk flood zone or a floodway. To view the effective flood zone for a property or area, visit the City’s Engineering department web viewer at https://www.plantcitygov.com/departments/development/engineering/flood_zones.php
• Elevation certificates submitted to the city can be researched by contacting the Engineering department.
• General information regarding floodplain management, evacuation zones, and the Community Rating System (CRS) can be obtained by visiting the City’s Engineering Department or Hillsborough County Webpage. HCFL.gov/FloodZone
• Additional property-specific information including, but not limited to, the below items may be available upon request by contacting the City’s Engineering department.
o Proximity to protected areas that have natural floodplain functions, such as wetlands, swamps, or mangroves. These areas store flood waters or buffer wave action while providing habitat for wildlife and improving water quality.
o Areas of repetitive flooding or reoccurring road flooding.
