Teen artists from the Southwest School of Art partner with spare parts to uncover the aesthetics of detritus and reexamine their relationship with the discarded. The resulting installation gives used cardboard a new life that honors its forest origins. Found in many cultures and religions, the Tree of Life symbolizes knowledge, sustenance, regeneration, and healing. Artist’s reclaimed materials often thought of as waste - used cardboard, plastic, paper and found objects - from their homes and communities to build the tree, challenging viewers to reimagine what they may consider unusable. This Tree of Life represents the hope for a healthier, more sustainable future.

This makes for raised garden beds loaded with organic material, nutrients, air pockets for the roots of what you plant, etc. As the years pass, the deep soil of your raised garden bed becomes incredibly rich and loaded with soil life. Discovery Green, Houston’s preeminent urban park, will energize and engage downtown this fall with a joyful interactive art installation by internationally-acclaimed Mexico City designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena. Los Trompos, or ‘the spinning tops,’ will be showcased on the park’s Sarofim Picnic Lawn. The colorful, large-scale, temporary installation, elements of which take their form from the common toy, will delight park visitors of all ages. Today's automotive manufacturers strive for economy and efficiency, but there was a time when art and elegance reigned. Sculpted in Steel: Art Deco Automobiles and Motorcycles, 1929-1940 celebrates the cars and motorcycles designed during this iconic period.

Sculpted in Steel showcases 14 cars and three motorcycles, alongside historical images and videos. The classic grace and modern luxury of Art Deco design dazzles in vehicles from the United States and around the world. The innovative, machine-inspired Art Deco style began in France in the early 20th century, but the movement was interrupted by World War I. The style reemerged across Europe after the war, and the 1920s to 1930s proved to be one of the most creative eras for international design in all mediums. Art Deco influenced everything from fashion and fine art to architecture and transportation.
