Please be weather aware and prepared!🙏🏼
PLAN AHEAD: Hey, friends. There is a heightened chance of severe weather Wednesday afternoon/evening. SPC has upgraded parts of Northern Indiana to a #4 out of 5, which is a "moderate" risk of severe weather. I know social media is going to go nuts, so here are my "feet on the ground" thoughts. Timing is after 5p EDT.
1) Tornado threat is elevated with this setup, especially in Indiana. Winds will be blowing at different directions at different heights. This leads to a favorable environment for tornadoes.
2) This will be a water-logged system. This much rain has the potential to "push" air to the ground as it falls. When that air hits the ground, it rapidly spreads up. This leads to microbrusts/straight line wind. This can cause damage to be more widespread than a tornado.
3) Unlike last week, it does appear that much of Wednesday will be cloudy/rainy. This certainly can help limit storm strength/capability. So... let's be grateful and cheer on any rain we see during the day! However... the environment still has a lot to work with, so I want my "weather geeks" to be prepared and ready to take action, regardless.
I will provide updates every 6-8hrs between now and Wednesday afternoon as new data comes in. Now is the time to have a plan in place! Where would you go if your town is under a tornado warning (hint: basement, interior room away from windows such as a closet or bathroom, etc).
