This is truly disappointing news for Point Pleasant Beach residents, visitors, and local businesses.
The proposed Seastreak ferry service offered a unique opportunity to provide direct weekend transportation between Manhattan and the Jersey Shore, potentially reducing traffic congestion, boosting tourism, and creating new economic opportunities for the community.
Unfortunately, the Point Pleasant Beach Council voted 3-2 to reject the ordinance that would have allowed a trial run of the service. As a result, Seastreak has officially canceled its planned 2026 service to Point Pleasant Beach, and any future expansion plans are now on hold.
While concerns about notification and the approval process deserve attention, it is unfortunate that a pilot program was not given the chance to prove its value. Many residents, commuters, and visitors were looking forward to having another transportation option to enjoy everything Point Pleasant Beach has to offer.
Hopefully, all parties can continue discussions and find a path forward that addresses local concerns while preserving the possibility of bringing this service to our community in the future.
