One of the biggest homebuying myths keeping renters stuck is the belief that every buyer must have a 20 percent down payment.

There are mortgage programs where qualified homebuyers may be able to purchase with less than 20 percent down.

That does not mean every loan program fits every person, and it does not mean everyone is ready to buy immediately.

It means you should get accurate information before automatically counting yourself out.

The right question is not only, “Do I have 20 percent saved?”

The better question is, “Which down payment and mortgage options may fit my situation?”
