Your friend may be a great person.
They may even be a great real estate agent.
But those are two different qualifications. 🏡
There’s nothing wrong with hiring someone you know to sell your home. Just don’t let friendship replace the interview.
Can they defend their pricing strategy with actual market evidence?
Do they have a plan if the house doesn’t receive an offer?
Can they tell you about a transaction that went sideways and how they handled it?
And maybe most importantly, will they tell you what you need to hear, even when it isn’t what you want to hear?
Real estate runs on relationships, and trust absolutely matters. But when someone is helping you navigate one of your largest financial assets, compatibility should never be a substitute for competence.
As Charity puts it:
You can hire your friend. Just make them earn the job.
And yes, real estate is unfortunately not all chips, queso and margaritas. 🌮🍹
