through Aug. 31.
SPRINGFIELD – The Effingham County Animal Shelter is participating in Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign held every August since 2015 to help shelters find loving homes for animals in need by waiving or reducing adoption fees.
The primary goal of Clear the Shelters Month is to reduce the number of homeless animals in shelters by connecting them with forever homes. This initiative also promotes responsible pet ownership and provides educational resources to new pet owners.
The Effingham County Animal Shelter, 307 Ga. Hwy 119 South, has waived adoption fees through Aug. 31.
The idea for Clear the Shelters originated from a successful local adoption event in Texas and has grown into a major coordinated effort involving thousands of shelters. In 2024 alone, the campaign resulted in 170,000 adoptions and raised more than half a million dollars to support animal welfare efforts.
If you’re unable to adopt, you can support the campaign by donating money or supplies to the shelter. These funds help it care for pets and continue vital work.
