Five complete strangers make a lasting impression on 25 parishioners from St. Paul Missionary Baptist located in Homestead Florida. On their way to Busch Garden to enjoy the day of fun, the bus that they were traveling on broke down three times and ended up stranded in our local town Port Charlotte. It would be several hours for another bus to arrive from the Church in Homestead, so the congregation was tasked with a long wait. A state trooper in light of the situation, offered to es**rt them to a local CiCi’s Pizza until the bus arrived. I asked the Pastor if I could be of any help…but he just smiled graciously and said Thanks for all that you have done.
On my way home, I couldn’t help but think of what else I could do for our temporary guests. So, I reached out to Eric Norton, Assistant Store Manager at Publix # 755, Alfredo Rivera, Customer Service Manager at Publix # 1013, and myself (Shirley Bijou) and donated sub sandwiches, bottle waters and chips in hopes of making their ordeal less stressful. Jesse Jones, CiCi’s Pizza Manager extended accommodations to ensure that were comfortable while waiting for the bus to be repaired.
It’s amazing when the power of the spirits touches you and gives you the opportunity to reach out and touch someone. It was truly the power of kindness.
