🏐LAMAR HALL OF HONOR LEGEND: THE STORY OF BARBARA COMEAUX🏐

From standout player to coaching legend — Barbara Comeaux built a legacy that shaped generations in Southeast Texas.

A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Comeaux went on to star at Lamar University as a four-year setter, helping lead the Lady Cardinals to four straight AIAW district titles and back-to-back state championships in 1967 and 1968.

But it’s what she did next that made history.

Taking over the Port Neches-Groves program in 1971, Comeaux transformed the Rock-a-noos into a powerhouse — winning three state championships in 1972, 1979 and 1981, including the school’s first state title in any sport since 1955.

Over nearly five decades on the sideline, she built one of the most dominant programs in Texas history — finishing with 1,285 career wins, all at PNG, and becoming the winningest volleyball coach in state history at the time of her retirement.

Her teams made the postseason 36 consecutive years, a testament to sustained excellence rarely seen at any level.

Comeaux’s impact reached far beyond wins and titles — earning her induction into the Lamar University Cardinal Hall of Honor in 2000 and the Texas Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2016.

A pioneer. A winner. A legend.
