This article is very timely as South Kitsap residents contemplate voting for the $271 Million Dollar Bond. Every fact and figure given by the School District Administration is based upon receiving a Bond at 4% interest. As of Oct. 12th, the news reported that rates are now 8 1/8% with another rate hike possibly before Christmas. Go to an Amortization Calculator ... at 8% for 22 years, the cost is $26,216,905.50 per year; $2,184,742.01 PER MONTH. The total of 264 monthly payments $576,771,921.16 / $305,771,921.16 in interest alone. When you take the Bond funds, upfront.... you begin making payments well before any construction will take place. Something to think about before voting... Is there a better alternative?

Liv Finne of the Washington Policy Center states that school officials should be required to provide the public with true and complete information about the real cost of approving school bonds.
