If a pipe bursts 💧 or something starts smoking ⚡ you do not want to be searching for this in a panic.

Every homeowner should know these two shutoffs before there’s an emergency.

🚿 Main Water Shutoff
This stops water to the whole house. When a pipe bursts or a water heater leaks, this is your first move.

Common places to look:

• Outside along an exterior wall
• In the garage
• Near the hose bib
• At the water meter near the street

Shutting off the water quickly can prevent a small problem from becoming major damage.

⚡ Electrical Main Breaker
This shuts off power to the entire home if something electrical goes wrong.

Usually found:

• In the main electrical panel
• In the garage
• On an exterior wall
• Near the electric meter

During inspections, I regularly meet homeowners who are not sure where these are or how to operate them.

Take five minutes and find both. Make sure they are easy to reach and not blocked by storage.
