A St. Lucie County woman won a $5 million jackpot after purchasing a $20 scratch-off ticket. Maria Duran, 57, claimed the top prize from the $5,000,000 CROSSWORD CASH game on April 6 and chose a one-time lump-sum payment of over $3.2 million.

The winning ticket was bought at PK 2 Quick Mart on Okeechobee Road in Fort Pierce, highlighting another big lottery win in St. Lucie County and the Treasure Coast. The odds of winning the $5 million top prize were 1-in-4,018,135.

Port St. Lucie City Council has approved an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation for decorative features at the new Midway Road and Turnpike interchange ramp. The decision was made during the July 13, 2026 council meeting, with Resolution 26-R 52 giving the city manager authority to finalize the agreement.

This step will help shape the look and feel of the upcoming interchange, which is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements in the area.

A major waterfront project in Fort Pierce is moving forward as the Planning Board prepares to review the proposed Causeway Cove development on Monday, July 13, at 2 p.m. The plan calls for five high-rise towers at 601 Seaway Drive, with 913 residential units—at least 366 of which must remain affordable housing for 30 years.

The development, advancing under Florida's Live Local Act, also features a 407-room hotel, more than 72,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, and a marina with 218 slips. Because the project meets state affordable housing requirements, the Fort Pierce City Commission will not vote on whether it is built. Instead, the Planning Board will focus on 31 conditions attached by city staff to the recommended approval.

This project is one of the largest of its kind in St. Lucie County and could have a lasting impact on the Treasure Coast's waterfront landscape.
