Huge congrats to my first-time buyer, Taylor. He found an oasis in and, as luck would have it, he made an offer on the same day as someone else. We went into back up and crossed our fingers. I had a good feeling about it - we both just knew it was his house. A few days later we found out we were moving into first position. He was thrilled! Nothing else we saw compared to this one. The $600M Moda Center renovation funding debate is heating up!
The Cost:
$365M state funding, plus $120M from Portland and $88M from Multnomah County.
Upside:
Keeps the Blazers anchored for 20 years, gives the Portland Fire first-class facilities, and updates the arena to attract bigger concert tours that usually skip us.
Downside:
Big public price tag for a billionaire-owned team when city budgets are already tight.
My Two Cents:
If public dollars are going toward this, let’s make it feel like us. Take a cue from the new PDX airport and bring in local PNW design, local vendors, and Portland businesses inside the arena.
Would bringing in local vendors make public funding more palatable?
